Abusing Pills ?

"Attention Disorder or Not, Pills to help in School," written by Alan Schwarz talks about kids who may be abusing the substance and who really use the pills to help them. Some kids use the pills to pay better attention in school, or to listen better to instructions, but some use them to raise already good grades.

The article has quotes by doctors, and parents with kids who use pills for A.D.H.D. The fact that some kids are only using pills to raise already good grades irritates me. It’s irritating because they are already doing well, so the pills should just be for the kids who really need them.

I think this topic shows how doctors handle kids in situations like these; they give them pills. They see them not really doing well in a big classroom and give them the label A.D.H.D. A solution to this problem would be to actually do test on the child to see if he/she truly has A.D.H.D.

This topic reminds me of my cousin who is diagnosed with A.D.H.D. She has a hard time listening and paying attention. She is also hyperactive in class. Her teachers have a hard time teaching her unless she takes her medicine in the morning.

This helped me realize parents will do anything to see their children do better in school, even if the side effects mean hearing and seeing people who are not there, and being suicidal. Parents who are okay with this is crazy, one day they kids could be hearing stuff and just kill their self. Their parents would be sad because they put their kids on the pills that made them suicidal.

My questions about this article would be did any kids kill their self because of the pills? Or did any parents see the side effects and stop giving their child the pills? I could answer the questions by asking the parents.

What Classroom Would You Like To Be In ?

The article “Boys in One Class, Girls in Another," written by Ben Wolfgang points out how boys and girls can learn better in same-sex classrooms. It gives examples on how they act differently without the opposite sex being in the same room. He says having same-sex classrooms, girls can be able to share their ideas more, and boys will be less distracted.

This article gives quotes, data from surveys, and facts. The fact that 400 schools have same-sex classes surprises me. It's surprising because I never heard of same-sex classes before, only same-sex schools. Also, because I never attended schools that did same-sex classrooms.

I think this is a really good topic. I feel I could learn better in a classroom without boys. They cause a distraction. I would be able to share more ideas if I was in a same-sex classroom so I would not be scared to be wrong.

This article reminds you of when a girl answers a question, boys tend to say "ha-ha" "you wrong" or "you too hype you got an answer right" saying these things can prevent girls from answering again. In class when boys are doing their work a girl can walk by and they look, mess with or talk to them, or when their sitting next to a girl they tend to mess with the girl and not finish their work.

Reading this article it made me realize why people fail their classes. They fail because boys are getting distracted and girls are scared to participate. Also, boys and girls really could learn better in same-sex classrooms.

This article made me wonder how many other people feel as though they would do better in same-sex classrooms. Also, I wonder why more schools are not trying out same-sex classrooms to see if it could work.

Can Texting Be Harmful or Beneficial ?

In the article "Texting May Be Taking a Toll" written by Katie Hafner  it explains why texting can be beneficial and harmful. It gives examples on how texting could be bad and good.

The article has quotes by doctors, teachers, parents, and children. It gives evidence on how many text messages per a month American Teenagers sent out for the companies AT&T and Verizon. A fact that stood out to me was that texting can lead to musculoskeletal disorders, leaving temporary or permanent damage to the thumbs. This shows texting can be harmful.

This article actually changed my mind on texting. I never knew texting could be so harmful to your thumbs, and grades. Also, that it can cause anxiety and sleep issues. This topic is important, more people should know about the harmful side effects of texting. A possible solution to the problem would be not to text as much.

I can connect with this article because sometimes my thumbs hurt from texting. In the morning after texting late at night I am so sleepy. Also, I can say I use texting to be in the know of my friend’s lives.

This article makes me not want to text as much as I do now. It helps me realize everything can cause problems in some way. Nothing is ever really safe.

This article makes me wonder how many people go through the bad side effects of texting. It makes me think if they do, do they try to solve it. Also, if they do try to solve it how long do they do it until they go back to their old habits?
