When Gun Laws Is Less Important Than Driving Laws

"Do We Have the Courage to Stop This?" written by Nicholas D. Kristof is about the shooting in Connecticut. Its talks about how in Connecticut a man went to an elementary school and shot the children and teachers. Also how other laws seem more important than gun laws, when guns is killing 30,000 Americans a year.

The article has facts. One thing that stood out to me was that Nicholas D. Kristof got a .22 rifle for his 12th birthday. This stood out to me because what do a 12 year old need with a gun that big? Why do his parents think that is an appropriate birthday present?

I think this topic is important. It is a valid point. They do need to change the laws on guns; make the laws stricter. Make it harder for people to get guns. They need to make sure the gun is in the right hands. They also need to make sure it’s in far reach from people with mental or bipolar disorders and children.

I can connect this article with a boy that I know. He got caught with a gun and is now doing a year in a juvenile center. He is able to come home on the holidays and some weekends though. He can either come home for three days or five, if his judge allows him too. When he comes out he will have to be on probation for some years.

This article did help me think that today’s society is messed up. They care more about people getting their licenses for driving than people getting their licenses for guns.

This law is creating criminals !

Marijuana law just creates criminals written by Hakeem Jeffries is about people getting locked up over a small possession of weed. How this law is “fundamentally unfair.”

The article has facts. A fact that stood out to me was that New York City spends 75 million dollars every year on arresting people because of marijuana. It stands out because why are they spending so much money on people getting arrested for marijuana, they could be putting the money to way better use like theft or murder.

I think this topic is correct. The marijuana law does create criminals. Someone who has never got locked up before gets locked up for weed and becomes a criminal in his records.
This law is different from Philadelphia’s law. You may get locked up for the weed and have to pay a fine, but you won’t spend months in jail over a small amount of weed.

I can connect this with the boys that live around my way. They get picked on by police for just standing outside Chinese and Puerto Rican stores. By locking them up and giving them a record police are messing up their future. They are going to have a hard time finding a job with a criminal background. If they want to be an attorney law firms may not hire someone who got locked up for possession of weed small amount or not.

Police need to not make criminals out of a small amount of weed. They need to either give them a warning or fine them and keep it moving. It is no need paying millions of dollars on people who have marijuana.

When Weight Overshadows Your Music

The article Christina Aguilera Slams False "Skinny, White Girl" Quotes, Never Made Weight Comments   written by Alyssa Toomey talks about an interview Christina Augilera did with Billboard magazine and the interviewer put false quotes in the article. They falsely accused her of saying in the article she doesn't want to be the "skinny, white girl” and how her label had a problem with her gaining weight.

The article has quotes by Christina Aguilera. She is stated saying "the comments are fake," and she also said some things about her new album "this album represents a celebration of the new me," she went on to tell Billboard magazine “and to me the Lotus has always represented this unbreakable flower that withstands any harsh weather conditions in its surroundings, that withstands time and remains beautiful and strong throughout the years."

I think people should leave Christina Augilera alone about her weight. If she wants to get bigger she can, she had a child that could put weight on you and she might not have gotten around to exercising the weight off yet. Also, if she is happy about her body no one else opinion should matter.

I can connect this to me because people always say I've gotten bigger or I’m too thin. Who is anybody to tell me how my body is I’m happy the way I am and that’s all that matters. This article made me realize people in this world will always talk about you. Period.

16 year-olds Driving ?

Should 16-year olds drive? Written by Ted Gregory talks about kids getting their license. The article points out reasons why 16-year olds should wait until their older age. They get distracted easily and are vulnerable to peer pressure.

This article has a lot of quotes. Quotes by driving instructors, state reps, and Ariz. institute president Adrian Lund. A quote that stands out to me is "Idealistically I think it'd be a great," "but practically? No. There's no mass transit to get to work, to get to jobs." This quote is true, don't nobody want to spend all this money for carfare when the money could be spent on gas.

I think this topic is important. I think 16-year olds should drive. They say 16-year olds create accidents, but so do grown-ups. grown-ups like to get behind the wheel drunk and create accidents, 16-year olds aren’t allowed to drink yet so they won’t get any D.U.I's. they say 16 year olds are immature, but so are grown-ups.

This article reminds me of why I am upset that I won’t be getting my license once I turn 16. I’ll be able to get my permit, but it’s not the same as driving around by yourself. It’s not the same as saying I have my license.

Love Triangle: Chris brown, Rihanna and Karrueche

Chris Brown Rumor Patrol: Rep Denies Karrueche Tran Payout, Rihanna Phone Call written by Josh Grossberg talks about the love triangle of Chris Brown, Karrueche, and Rihanna. It talks briefly about his breakup with Karrueche and his up and coming friendship with Rihanna.

This article has quotes. Chris brown reps stated it is "not true" Chris brown bought Karrueche a home. Chris brown also issued a statement "I love Karrueche very much, but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna," he wrote. "I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives."

In the article it is stated the reason for Karrueche and Brown breakup is a photo of Chris Brown and Rihanna kissing and showing up at Jay-Z concert together. Also, the fact that Rihanna in an interview with Oprah she said she still loved him despite the fight they had 3 years ago.

I think everyone should just leave them alone. If they want to be together let them be together. Also, forget about what he did to her 3 years ago, Rihanna did so everyone else should. They are young and are going to make mistakes, just let them be happy.

My friends and I talk about their situation all the time. They say it’s wrong she with him, how could she forget about the beating he gave her. But I tell them you don’t know what happened that night they were together in the car, they love each other she forgave and forgot about it and so should you.

Obama For Another Four Years !

Yay! Boo! So? Reactions to Obama win vary by Peter Mucha talks about how the people feel about Obama winning. Some people feel happy, some people are upset and some have mixed feelings.

This article contains lots of quotes. One quote that stood out was "I'm not happy, I haven't had a job in over a year," says Chuck Rihl. This upsets me because it’s not Obama's job to get you a job. He create new jobs and it’s your responsibility to go out and get one, and if you can’t get one don't blame it on your president but look at yourself and ask what am I doing wrong.

I'm happy that Obama won. You can’t fix all the mess Bush created in just four years. He needed some more time to make things right.

Before the election I would ask around and see who my teachers and family members were voting for, they all said Obama but for different reasons. Most of my teachers were voting for Obama because he stands up for middle-class families and because he fought for woman rights. Some of my family members voted for
Obama because he is a democrat and some voted for him because they felt as though Romney was untruthful.
