What Classroom Would You Like To Be In ?

The article “Boys in One Class, Girls in Another," written by Ben Wolfgang points out how boys and girls can learn better in same-sex classrooms. It gives examples on how they act differently without the opposite sex being in the same room. He says having same-sex classrooms, girls can be able to share their ideas more, and boys will be less distracted.

This article gives quotes, data from surveys, and facts. The fact that 400 schools have same-sex classes surprises me. It's surprising because I never heard of same-sex classes before, only same-sex schools. Also, because I never attended schools that did same-sex classrooms.

I think this is a really good topic. I feel I could learn better in a classroom without boys. They cause a distraction. I would be able to share more ideas if I was in a same-sex classroom so I would not be scared to be wrong.

This article reminds you of when a girl answers a question, boys tend to say "ha-ha" "you wrong" or "you too hype you got an answer right" saying these things can prevent girls from answering again. In class when boys are doing their work a girl can walk by and they look, mess with or talk to them, or when their sitting next to a girl they tend to mess with the girl and not finish their work.

Reading this article it made me realize why people fail their classes. They fail because boys are getting distracted and girls are scared to participate. Also, boys and girls really could learn better in same-sex classrooms.

This article made me wonder how many other people feel as though they would do better in same-sex classrooms. Also, I wonder why more schools are not trying out same-sex classrooms to see if it could work.

  1. Great post Arianna. You make a lot of good points about how teens could benefit from gender segregation. Do you think though, there could be some downside to segregating classes in this way? 100
